The Home

A look at the building and shared spaces at Rivervale.

Rivervale is a purpose-built, single-storey nursing home on the Old Birr Road. The entrance opens into a central atrium, with two conservatories, a dining room, day room, and sitting room/oratory. The home sits on a large site with green areas and an enclosed garden, with ample parking space at the front.

Bedrooms

Single bedroom at Rivervale Nursing Home

A resident’s bedroom is their private space within the home. Bedrooms are furnished, ensuite, and can be personalised with suitable belongings so the room feels familiar.

Every bedroom has its own ensuite shower room with a shower, wash basin, and toilet. Nurse-call systems are fitted in both the bedroom and ensuite bathroom, and bedrooms include Saorview television.

Personal items are discussed before admission so the room can be prepared safely and practically, taking account of space, care needs, and any equipment required.

Dining Room & Kitchen

Meals are prepared on site and served in the dining room, with meals served in a resident’s room where needed. See Daily Life for more on meals.

Residents are offered menu choices. Individual preferences, nutritional requirements, ethnic, cultural, and religious requirements can be taken into account when menus are planned.

Support can be provided for residents who need assistance at mealtimes. Residents may also use their own room for meals where this is suitable.

Day Room & Oak Room

The Day Room is our lounge room for sitting, reading, watching television, family visits, and group activities.

Rivervale has in-house activities coordinators. The activities programme is discussed with new residents who would like to take part, and activities are held in the Day Room and other shared spaces as appropriate.

The Oak Room is a separate shared sitting room. Resident meetings are held there frequently, with residents invited to take part in consultation about the service. Residents who do not attend meetings are met with separately so their views can still be gathered.

The oratory is available for religious observance, prayer, or quiet reflection. More on religious services and social life is covered in Daily Life.

Hairdressing & Chiropody Room

Rivervale has a dedicated room used for hairdressing and chiropody appointments.

A visiting hairdresser is available by appointment. Chiropody can also be arranged, depending on the resident’s needs and available entitlements.

Some personal services may involve an additional cost. More detail on what may be charged separately is covered in Fees & Funding.

Garden & Conservatories

Two conservatories sit off the central atrium. One opens directly to the enclosed garden, giving residents indoor sitting space with views towards the garden and easy access outside.

The home is set on a large site with green areas, planting, paths, and seating. The enclosed garden is available for residents to use.

There is visitor parking at the front of the home. Family and friends can visit under the open visiting policy, with visitors signing in and out at the main entrance. Visiting arrangements are covered in Daily Life.
