Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about care, visiting, fees, and admissions at Rivervale.

Care & Services

Rivervale provides long-term residential care, respite and convalescent stays, dementia care, palliative care, and care for residents with changing clinical or dependency needs. Care Services explains the clinical support in more detail.
Rivervale can provide respite and convalescent stays where availability and assessed care needs allow. Needs are reviewed before admission where possible, so the home can confirm whether the stay can be supported.
Rivervale is registered for up to 43 residents and can support adults with low to maximum dependency needs. Each person’s needs are assessed before admission where possible, so the home can confirm whether it can provide the right level of care.
A nursing assessment is completed before admission where possible. Each resident has a care plan based on assessed needs, and care plans are reviewed regularly or when there is a change in condition, dependency, treatment, medication, or support requirement.
Care plans are reviewed regularly and updated where a resident’s condition, dependency, treatment, medication, or support needs change. GP and allied-health input is arranged where needed.
Care is delivered with input from the resident’s GP and relevant allied-health services where needed. This may include physiotherapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy, speech and language therapy, dietetics, tissue viability nursing, phlebotomy, sub-cutaneous fluids, and support with hospital appointments.

Daily Life & The Home

Yes. Rivervale has single and twin bedrooms, and every bedroom is ensuite with its own shower, basin, and toilet. Rooms are furnished, with space for personal items where space and safety allow.
Rivervale has in-house activities coordinators who arrange the activities programme around residents’ preferences and needs. The programme includes internal activities, social events, occasional outings, and home-based activities for residents who would like to take part. See Daily Life for more information.
Meals are cooked on site and served in the dining room, with meals served in a resident’s room where needed. Residents are offered menu choices, and individual preferences and nutritional requirements are taken into account.
Rivervale has an open visiting policy. Family and friends can visit, with visits managed respectfully around residents’ needs, privacy, infection-control requirements, and shared spaces.
Mass is celebrated weekly in the centre, and the Oak Room has a quiet reflective space. Rivervale is multi-denominational, and residents who wish to practise their religion can be supported, including contact with local places of worship where requested.

Fees & Funding

Yes. Rivervale is approved under the Nursing Home Support Scheme, commonly called Fair Deal. Under Fair Deal, residents make an assessed contribution towards long-term nursing home care and the State pays the balance of the approved cost. More details can be found on the Fair Deal page.
Fair Deal covers the main nursing home care package: bed and board, nursing and personal care appropriate to the resident’s assessed needs, bedding, machine-washable laundry, and basic aids and appliances needed for daily living.
The weekly service charge covers services and items outside the Fair Deal weekly fee, such as daily newspapers, toiletries, clothing labelling, activities, group events, pastoral services, and some organised outings. Please see Fees & Funding for the full breakdown.
Some services are not covered by Fair Deal or the weekly service charge. These can include privately arranged professional services, personal appointments, transport, escort services, specialist equipment, medication, dressings, dry cleaning, or other items not covered by a public or medical-card route.
