Daily life at Rivervale is organised around routine, choice, and familiar shared spaces. Residents can join group activities, spend time with visitors, attend religious services, read quietly, or keep their own routine.
Activities
Rivervale has in-house activities coordinators who arrange the activities programme around residents’ preferences and needs.
New residents have a social assessment on admission. Activities coordinators also discuss home-based activities with residents who would like to take part, and residents are encouraged to keep up their social and leisure interests where practical.
The programme includes internal activities and social events. A sample activities schedule is displayed around the centre and on noticeboards.
Meals
Meals are cooked on site and served in the dining room, with meals served in a resident’s room where needed.
Residents are offered menu choices, and individual preferences and nutritional requirements are taken into account. The menu also takes account of ethnic, cultural, and religious requirements where relevant.
Visitors
Rivervale has an open visiting policy. Family and friends can visit, with visits managed respectfully around residents’ needs, privacy, and shared spaces.
Faith
Mass is celebrated weekly in the centre. The Oak Room has a quiet reflective space for residents’ use.
Rivervale is a multi-denominational care centre. Residents who wish to practise their religion can be supported, including contact with local places of worship or arranging a priest or member of a relevant congregation to visit where requested.
Outings and social life
Day trips are organised occasionally. Arrangements can also be made for residents to go shopping or attend activities outside the nursing home; some external arrangements may involve extra costs.
Resident meetings are held frequently as part of Rivervale’s consultation process. Residents who do not attend these meetings are met separately so their views can still be heard.
